OPERATION DAY FLARE 2020
This challenging event will take place on Saturday 4 April, and will take the form of an incident hike of approximately 20 kilometres (12 miles) in daylight.
Teams will comprise 3,4 or 5 Explorer Scouts or 3 Explorer Scouts and 2 Scouts aged 13 years and over on the date of the event. There will be trophies for the winners in each class, and every finishing team will receive a certificate. The maximum age is under 18 years on April 4th 2020.
The hike will start at the Betchworth Village Hall (TQ 210508), and finish in Coulsdon at a location to be disclosed after the deadline for entries (March 14 ).
Teams will leave the start at 5 minute intervals having had a thorough kit inspection for which points will be awarded.
Registration will be no less than 30 minutes before start time.
Points will be awarded for kit inspection, accuracy in navigating using maps and compasses only, dealing with incidents en route, and net time taken, with a maximum time limit of 8 ½ hours. Light refreshments will be available at the finish.
The maximum number of teams will be 30, and applications will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. The cost per team is £ 25.
