Operation Red Flare

This is by way of a heads up.

We are very well advanced with our plans for the event in 2018, will be alerting Units at the very beginning of September 2017 so that they can include the event in their programme planning.

Without giving too much away I can say that the proposed route is 21 kms long with 500 metres of ascent. This compares with 24 kms and 700+ metres of ascent last time, and I hope this reduction (equivalent to approximately 1 1/2 hours) will encourage more Units to take part. The route still needs to be verified before more details can be provided , but I can say the checkpoint locations appear ideal for activities.

The Wimbledon and Wandle SASU has kindly offered to do the breakfast for us.

The cost per team entry is likely to be similar to last year.

It would be useful even at this stage for Unit Leaders to spend time improving Explorers' navigation skills as this was partly responsible for the lower than expected completion rate in 2017, physical fitness being the other key factor.
