Some Travels of the International Peace Light
Distribution of the Peace Light from Bentley Copse was reported in December (19th). The start and end of one local journey are recorded here:
The history of the Peace Light needs to be understood first for full appreciation. Amazingly scouts in troubled Middle East can collect the Light from the Grotto and hand it over at the border of Israeli sector to a Jewish Scout . Who then takes it to Tel Aviv airport for its flight to Austria.
The distribution service held in Vienna in December which is attended by over 300 Scouts and Guides with representation from as far as Belarus, Poland, Slovakai, Czech Republic,
These words travel with the Light:
Take this Light which we share with you ,as a symbol of peace,
Peace I leave with you
Peace I give to you
Take it and pass it on to everyone
And the world will know that you are my friend.
It was great to be invited to the Peace Light service at Bently Copse.I really enjoyed the experience. The challenge for us was to keep the tee lights burning until we arrived home without setting light to the car.
I then, on the next night, walked from home with the Peace Light to Double Dragons Explorer Unit meeting at the local curry restaurant, Saqui. The Unit Leader was not impressed with me walking in with a lantern, he thought that I had gone mad (or madder than usual) so I explaned about how the light had travelled all the way from Bethlehem to reach here in Carshalton and how it symbolized peace. He wanted to know all the in and outs: he was impressed.
Happy New Year and Peace to all.
