Shelterbox Dartmoor Challenge - For Adult Members
Would you like to spend one weekend in September trekking across Dartmoor to support one of The Scout Association’s international partners – ShelterBox?
What it is: The ShelterBox Dartmoor Challenge - http://www.dartmoorchallenge.org
What that is: Teams self-navigate up to 30 miles over two days, walking over mixed terrain against the dramatic backdrop of Dartmoor National Park - all whilst carrying a ShelterBox. Teams will compete for points over a variable course where navigation, tactical decision making and teamwork will count as much as speed and endurance.
When is it: 15th and 16th September 2012
How much does it cost: There is no cost to take part, however you will need to cover your own transport costs. If this will prevent you from taking part please let me know.
Who are we looking for: We need 4 people to make up one team. Any member of the activities and international team who is physically fit enough to be able to complete the hike, which is designed to be pretty challenging, will be able to apply. If we don’t get enough international team members we will widen it out to programme team volunteers and Gilwell staff.
Why are we doing it?: ShelterBox is hugely supportive of international in Scouting; this is one of their high profile annual events, and we like to send a team to show the cooperation and strong relationship between the two organisations. Last year we sent a team of Gilwell staff, but this year we thought we’d like to give the opportunity to you guys to join in – as it’s a really great fun event to be part of so we thought it would be a small way of saying thank you for all the hard work you do for Scouting.
If you would like to take part, please get in contact with me no later than 9am on Friday 7th September. If you can get in touch with me before then that would be great, as time is tight and I would like to know if we will be able to put a team together asap. You can call me on 0208 433 7148, or email on email@example.com . If I get more than 4 people apply I will draw names out of a hat (or hat shaped object) on the 7th.
Look forward to hearing from you,
Programme & Development Adviser (International and Activities)
