Gannett Foundation Accepting Applications for 2013

Gannett Foundation Accepting Applications for 2013

Registered charities from across England still have time to submit an application for funding from the Gannett Foundation UK as the deadline for most areas is in September.

Each year the Gannett Foundation offers funding to registered charities operating in the regions linked to its 300 local newspapers and websites. The Gannett Foundation is the charitable arm of Gannett Co, Inc. owner of Newsquest Media Group, which publishes regional and local newspapers, websites and magazines across the UK.

Registered charities that "make a lasting difference to communities” within the circulation/production area of the 300 Newsquest titles may be eligible to apply for grants of between £5,000 and £10,000. The funding is intended to support one-off local activities or capital items that benefit a large number of local residents.

The Foundation is looking for projects that bring lasting benefits to the communities and neighbourhoods served by its newspapers. This includes schemes for neighbourhood improvement and local problem-solving, economic development, youth development, education and cultural creativity, help for the disadvantaged or disabled and environmental conservation.

Preference will be given to projects that “demonstrate good planning, oversight and financial responsibility”.

Funding cannot be used for salaries, professional fees or day-to-day running or maintenance costs, or general appeals. Groups that have received an award from the Foundation within the last two years may not apply this year.

Applications must be made to the local newspaper. To find out if they are within the area of eligibility, groups should first visit the Newsquest newspaper title listing to find out if they are located near a Newsquest publication. The application form can be downloaded from the local Newsquest newspaper and returned to the local Newsquest newspaper publisher.

It is important to note that the deadlines vary according to the local newspaper. Although most of the deadlines are in September, they can vary from early to mid to late September. Groups should check their local paper to avoid disappointment.
