Successful Queen's Scout and DofE Gold Award Expeditions

Successful Queen's Scout and DofE Gold Award Expeditions

Congratulations to the following, who successfully completed their 4-day 'wild country' qualifying expedition organised by County in the Cambrian Mountains of Mid-Wales earlier this week :-

Matthew Brice - Sutton Scout Network, Annie King - Sutton Scout Network

Emma Nottage - Kenley ESU (Croydon), Daniel Wait - Nexus Scout Network (Richmond)

William Young - Purley Oaks ESU (Croydon)

They had to contend with the aftermath of 80 mm of rain the night before they started their expedition. This made most of the rivers and streams impassable resulting in significant detours and extra distance. Their Assessor, Andrew Williams, was very impressed with their competence in navigation and walking skills, as well as their
team spirit. There were two teams of 5, which also included 3 Ranger Guides from Croydon, another from Dover, and a Scout Network member from Essex.

The next cycle begins with the 'Introduction to Wild Country' Training Course in the Peak District during October half-term. This is followed by a 'practice' expedition in April, and the 'qualifying' expedition towards the end of next July. Further details from myself.
