Three teams of Explorers, Scout Network members and senior Section Guides completed their 4-day practice and qualifying expeditions in glorious weather on Dartmoor last week (April 14-17 2014). Two teams started their journey at Cadover Bridge and Sheepstor to the north of Plymouth, and navigated their way across the South and North Moors to finish at South Tawton near Okehampton, a distance of 80 kms (50 miles). A third team started at South Tawton and finished near Princetown. A variety of campsites were used including a 'wild' camp at Teignhead Farm in the middle of the North Moor and 3 kms from the nearest road. Six adults supervised the teams. Assessment was provided by a member of the Dartmoor DofE Assessor Network. The next expedition will take place in the Yorkshire Dales towards then end of July, and a new expedition cycle begins in September with a 5 day practical training course over the autumn half-term holiday.
