...orienteering

Sunday 30th November 2008 in the Riddlesdown area

...information

Come and have a few hours in the outdoors for this year’s orienteering competition. It’s a good way to have fun, see the countryside, keep fit and see loads and loads of other friends.

In a nutshell, in pairs of two, you will be given a map and you navigate your way around a number of checkpoints in a mystery tour of Riddlesdown. You will get points for each checkpoint you find and trophies will be given within each age group for those getting the most points. The event is massively popular – last year we had over 200 teams and had to close entries early so please get your forms to me as soon as possible.

...start/finish

The start and finish will be from the 19th Purley HQ, Dunmail Drive, off Mitchelly Hill, Sanderstead, Surrey, CR8 1EX (take the righthand fork about 100 metres up Dunmail drive, do not go as far up as Riddlesdown school). Parking is available at the HQ.

...equipment needed

Each team member will need warm waterproof clothing and preferably boots (strong shoes will do). Each team will need a silva type compass, pen or pencil and a clipboard. An orienteering map plus full instruction sheets will be supplied to each team.

...cost

£3.00 per team entry (two persons), to be paid in cash on the day please.

...time

Time allowed to complete the course will be 90 minutes, teams will go off at staggered starts throughout the day. We are aiming for the first team to go off at 10:00am and the last to go off about 2:30pm.
