County Cooking Competition 2008
19 teams from around GLSW entered this year’s County Cooking Competition at 1st Hook Scout Headquarters. Each team had to prepare and cook a three course meal for four people within two hours, and with ingredients costing less than £12.50 in total. The theme this year was “Food for the Future” – what will we be eating in 2020? Using your imagination, but thinking responsibly – only using ingredients sourced in the UK. (limiting carbon footprint).
As always the menus were extremely varied and the standard of the meals prepared was very high. This year’s winners were the 19th Wimbledon team with 62 points, 5th Carshalton and 9th Purley A teams in joint second place with 60 points and Leander, 23rd Mitcham B and 1st Morden A teams in third place with 58 points.
Additional merit certificates were awarded for the most professional team – 1st Purley A, most creative team – 23rd Mitcham B and most equipment used – Berrylands. Perhaps there should also be a special commendation for best unintended use of a grill – mmm, the heady aroma of char grilled table filling the hall!
