Background Information

The Scout Network in GLSW started officially on 1 September 2002, and is organised into five Local Networks, one for each of the constituent London Boroughs — Croydon, Kingston, Merton, Richmond, and Sutton. Most Networks meet on a regular basis, and plan their programme to encourage participation in various Programme Zones, a major departure from the old ‘progressive training scheme’. Having said that we sincerely hope to see a significant increase in the number of Queen’s Scout and Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards gained in GLSW.

Each Local Scout Network has a Local Coordinator to represent the members’ views at the County Scout Network Committee where County-run activities are organised. Once a year all members of the County Scout Network meet together at the County Conference to review achievements and plan for the future.

The County Scout Network has an Administrator whose function it is to compile and manage the GLSW Network database of members’ information, communicate event and other information to the membership, liaise with other counties, and handle the annual Census.

There are also County Scout Network Leaders who will take responsibility for, amongst other things, Awards, International, State Duties, and Special Needs.

Our Scout Network uniform is the same as the Leader uniform, and looks particularly smart when worn with the County Scout Network scarf. GLSW Scout Network scarves (L or XL) are available at £5.75 each, GLSW Scout Network polo shirts (S, M, L, XL) are available at £9.00 each and Scout Network ‘Navigator’ files are available also at £9.00 each — all from the County Scout Network Commissioner and plus post and packing.
