General Information
< This night hike will take place from North Holmwood Village Hall, Dorking. >
< The 1st team will start walking @ 7:30pm and teams will follow at regular intervals from that time. The route is of several lengths as usual, Bronze, Silver and Gold. >
< Units are to arrange their own transport to & from the hike, Unit members should not be allowed to drive, nor Leaders who have been up all night helping with the hike. >
< Units need to register the number of teams applying to walk with the organiser asap. Latest date for entries is Friday 26th September 2008. However, please let us have your applications before this date. >
< Bring sleeping bags etc. as there will be space available for sleeping after you have finished walking. >
Teams
< Teams must be 4 – 6 Explorer Scouts. The age limit is that as defined in POR for Explorer Scouts. (Therefore the oldest entrants may be only just be over 18 years old) >
Checking-in
< Teams will be given a checking-in time and must arrive at the base in plenty of time to “settle in” and store any items not required on the walk. Please note we do not have anywhere to store valuables. The whole team is to present itself to the check-in desk ready to walk. They will need their “Team Application” form and a “Permission to Hike form” (both included in the information pack) for each walker. >
Equipment
< Individuals must have a small rucsac containing: Waterproof jacket, gloves, torch with enough battery power for over 6 hours, spare batteries & bulb, suitable footwear, spare clothing and be wearing generally suitable clothing no denims. (Waterproof trousers and boots recommended for all). You must all have some emergency food with you and a drink. You must all have an item of reflective clothing that must be worn as your outer layer. >
< Groups must have at least one of each of the following: Good 1st Aid Kit, survival bag, compass, map case/clear plastic bag, watch, change for phone or a phone card and ideally at least one mobile phone. (We will provide an OS map for each team, if you wish to bring extra maps then we will advise which sheet nearer the time). >
< All kit will be checked at the start of the hike and possibly during or at the end of the hike. >
Home Contact
< Each Unit must appoint a home contact not related to any of the team. That person must have a full list of next of kin from all Explorers & Leaders from that Unit in case of an emergency. The home contact details will need to be left at base. >
Entry
< Please complete an entry form (included in the information pack), one per team, and let me know asap how many teams you are entering. Each person must have a letter of consent to attend the hike. All the team MUST bring these on the night. >
Food & drink
< There will be hot drinks and a snack available to the end of the hike, at base. Breakfast will NOT be provided. >
Presentations
< Will take place on Sunday morning between 7:00am & 7:30am. We need time to tidy up and be out of the hall. >
Disputes
< Any disputes will be settled by the ACC (Explorer Scouts) and his decision is final >
