Explorer Scout Night Hike 2006

Results · Pictures

Over the weekend Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th October 2006 the County Explorer Scouts held their annual Night Hike Competition. The format was as in previous years; the complete circular route being Gold, with the options to stop earlier to complete Silver or Bronze distances. There were prizes available for the fastest three teams in each route length with trophies for each. The overall winners of each group also being presented with the coveted ‘Ice-Axe’ Trophy. This axe is engraved with the Units name and they display it at their HQ for the year.

This year we were based at Bentley Copse. The route was a little longer than in previous years and more attention was needed for route finding. We were pleased with the turnout and had some very competitive entrants.

The winners of the Gold route were the Last But Not Least team from Belmont ESU. They were followed the Hampton Unit in 2nd place (which was a reversal of last years result!). The Double Dragon Team were third. The winners of the Silver route were the All Saints Unit from Croydon (a new Unit and entering this hike for the 1st time), 2nd were Grace’s Guys from Wimbledon and 3rd were the Paralytic Snails from the Voyager ESU. In the Bronze route the winners were The Real Phoenix team from Phoenix ESU, 2nd were Strollin’ (from the new, as yet unnamed, Unit from Wimbledon & Wandle) and 3rd were the Obscure team from Belmont ESU.

I would like to thank the team of adults at all the checkpoints and in the base for their time and energy which makes this event happen.
