Explorer Scout Night Hike 2005
The second GLSW Explorer Scout night hike took place in the area around North Holmwood in Surrey on Saturday 15th October. From 7:30pm onwards twenty-two teams from all parts of the County were set off from the village hall at five-minute intervals.
The route offered the teams the option of completing either a Bronze, Silver or Gold hike, the choice of which was up to them to decide once they had started. The Gold route was approximately 12½ miles long and ended back at the village hall. The Silver and Bronze routes were shorter and ended at checkpoints on the Gold route. Sixteen teams completed the Gold route, two completed the Silver and two opted for the Bronze hike.
As they returned to the hall the teams were able to follow the progress of the rest of the competitors on a big screen, which displayed the teams times between check points and their relative positions in each category. At the end of the evening, after a hot snack, everyone bedded down for an hour or two of well needed sleep, only to be abruptly awoken shortly after 6:00am for bacon sandwiches and the final presentations.
Well done to all those who took part and we hope to see you again next year.
