Successful Introduction to Orienteering
Almost 40 Scouts and Explorer Scouts from 4 Districts turned up for this event at Thames Young Mariners today (Sunday 26th), and had a thoroughly worthwhile and enjoyable experience. Thanks to Chris Wroe, our County Orienteering Advisor, and the coaches from 'SLOW' for making us welcome and delivering some excellent instruction. The Scouts concerned are now on their way to achieving the Orienteer Badge.
We now look forward to the County Orienteering Competition in Richmond Park on October 9th. For as many years as I can remember this event has been held in November and almost exclusively in the Croydon area. We feel it is time to ring the changes and try some different locations. We hope the new format will result in greater Scout participation in this excellent sport. It would be helpfull if DCs would cascade this information to DESCs and ADCs (Scouts).
If anyone has any comments about GLSW orienteering generally or today's event please feel free to send them to Robin Burr, Paul Seward, or Chris Dean.
