Southern 50 - 2012
Some pictures taken on Saturday 11th February at this year's Southern 50 run by GLN are in the "What's Happening, Photo Album" (photos - Andy Bailey (DSNL Croydon)).
Members of Croydon Scout Network together with Chris Dean (DCC - Programme) ran a checkpoint near Ivinghoe Beacon high up in the Chiltern Hills. Our checkpoint was open from 9.00 am until we were closed down at 8.00 pm. It was bitterly cold (temperatures reached -18 deg C during the night) so much so that the camping gaz stoves would not work properly ! Next year we plan to walk the 50 mile route.
GLSW SAS Unit (Ed Hackett,Gary Poolman, David Sommerfield and Barnaby Bell) finished this year's 50 miler in 13 hours and 35 minutes. It is believed that they came 3rd or 4th. Altogether, approximately 80 teams took part in the 30km, 50 km or 50 mile event. We hope that they all thaw out soon.
