DofE Gold / QSA Residential Opportunity
Rebecca Radford writes: A couple of years ago for the residential clause of my Gold Duke of Edinburgh and Queen Guide I went to Pathfinders camp at the Woodlarks campsite in Farnham, Surrey.
Pathfinders camp runs every year and brings together people with or without disabilities to enjoy a weeks camping. It mainly caters for women aged 18 and above.
Jane Pyzniuk, one of the main organisers has recently got in touch with me to ask if I could help spread the word with regards to the recruitment of more volunteers.
If you feel this is something you would like to be involved with personally that's great but if not that's completely fine as well, please feel free to pass on to people you feel may be interested.
This would be a great opportunity if you would like to complete the residential clause of your Gold DofE/Queens Guide/Queens Scout this year. It was a great residential for me when I took part and I learnt a lot and most importantly it was great to meet so many inspiring people.
The camp this year runs from 25th August to 1st September and the charge is £80 for the week, to cover food, activities and camp fees. There is a Friendship Fund that can help to subsidise this cost if that is the only barrier to joining us.
There is no upper age limit for our helpers. As well as providing a great residential placement for Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award and Queen's Guide candidates this provision is a great opportunity for anyone considering careers in medicine, nursing, physio/OT, social work and teaching to work with disabled people in a fun and supportive environment. It is all fantastic 'life experience' and is also a great line for anyone to have on their CV.
