Module 15 – Challenging Behaviour

Description
Preventing and managing challenging behaviour in the Section.
This means:
- being able to identify challenging behaviour
- knowing the causes of challenging behaviour of young people
- using methods of prevention and management of challenging behaviour in the Section.
Questions
- Do you know the causes of challenging behaviour amongst young people?
- Do you know how to prevent or avoid incidents of challenging behaviour?
- Do you know how to deal with challenging behaviour should it occur in your Section?

To validate this module you will need to complete two of the following:
- Develop and implement a Section Code of Conduct with the young people with whom you work.
- Demonstrate how acceptable standards of behaviour may be agreed with both young people and the adult leadership team. (OCN Unit H2.3)
- Identify actions that could be taken to reduce those triggers/causes of challenging behaviour which are within your control. (OCN Unit H2.2)
- If applicable, explain how they have dealt with challenging behaviour successfully and appropriately in the past.
- Identify sources of additional help and support in dealing with challenging behaviour. (OCN Unit H2.4)
- Plan and run a game or activity with your Section members to explore acceptable and unacceptable behaviour.
- Any other ideas, subject to agreement with a Training Adviser.
And:
Discuss with a Training Adviser the types, causes and triggers of challenging behaviour. Consider appropriate action in different situations, (OCN Unit H2.1)
