‘BACK TO THE FUTURE’ – GLSW Development Conference

Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th February 2008

Open to all GSLs and Group Chairmen or other Key Executive members

(Please note any GSL unable to attend may send another Leader from the Group to represent them)

Saturday: Participants arrive from 11.30am to register and collect their welcome pack. Lunch is served from 12.00 noon and the opening session is 1.30pm.

Workshop 1*

‘Defining the Role’, looks in detail at the individual roles you fulfil within your Group/District.

Workshop 2*

‘Blockers’, what is stopping you growing and developing Scouting in your Group/District. Solutions and sharing best practice.

Workshop 3

‘The Way Forward’, four sessions to choose from... (Also workshop 4)

  • Real Mr Blue Sky: real examples of the alternatives to ‘traditional’ Scouting – where, when, how?
  • Girls and Scouting: We are a co-educational youth movement, are you making the most of this potential?
  • Adult recruitment: Does what it says on the tin!
  • Funding: Applying for head quarters funds for Groups/Districts and the Jack Petchey Foundation

*Workshops 1 and 2 are role specific; you will be allocated a group based on your role.

Saturday workshops finish at 5.35pm. The evening meal is served at 7.30pm and tables will be arranged so you have an opportunity to network with adults from around the County. Following the meal we have a guest after-dinner speaker: Mr Richard Butler, County Commissioner for Norfolk. The bar will remain open for the rest of the evening and you can continue to network with adults from around the County. Facilitators from the workshops and County team members will also be on hand to discuss any Development issues you have.

Sunday: Breakfast will be served from 8.00am to 9.30am. The opening session begins at 9.45am in the main hall.

Workshop 4

These sessions duplicate those from Workshop 3 on Saturday enabling participants to select a second session to attend (places for Workshops 3 & 4 must be booked on the application form).

Workshop 5

‘I know my place’, all participants return to the main hall. This workshop is followed by the closing session. Safe home 12.45pm

All participants must complete an application form and return with their £30 cheque (made payable to ‘GLSW Scouts’).

Places at the conference and in specific workshops are limited and allocated on a first come first served basis.
